Going to be doing some traveling where I plan on hiking quite a bit, and want to bring my ruck plate with me. Any experiences on taking the ruck plate with you in your carry-on (GR0)? Just curious on how TSA handles it.
Tried to fly with 30lb expert plate in my GR1. TSA first pulled my bag, removed the ruck plate, and sent both through again separately, saying that the plate prevented them from seeing clearly through my backpack otherwise. On the second pass through the scanner, they informed me that the plate is too heavy to be in a carry-on bag, so I had to get out of line and check the plate in my wheeled luggage. This was Delta so I ended up paying $50 roundtrip to bring the plate with me. So, won't be doing that again.
It's a 50/50 chance they confiscate the plate. Really depends on the TSA agent you get, as it isn't set in stone as a rule for them. Best to check it.
